Have you lost faith in the Orthodox medical system? Are you tired of waiting for your child to "grow out of" their disorder? Are you wanting to treat the cause of your child's illness and not just the symptoms? Perhaps you are wanting a natural solution to rectify a problem that is just beginning to show? Or maybe you are wanting to prevent illness in the first place?! As a mum, I know that when it comes to treating your child you want only the best, natural and effective remedies, without hassles and without stress. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine offer drug free solutions that can be used successfully to treat many childhood illnesses, disorders and conditions. Babies from as young as a few months through to adolescents can be treated and results are fast and effective.Mention the word "needle" to your average child and they will immediately associate it with a "doctor" - a man or woman in a white coat wearing rubber gloves and holding a great big painful syringe that "doesn't hurt" or feels like a "little sting" and makes you feel crap afterwards. It is my aim to remove myself as far away from that image as possible. Yes, there are usually tears and tantrums at the first treatment - the children work themselves up so much and cry so hard that when i've actually needled their arm, hand or leg they couldn't feel it!!! I've lost count of the number of shocked and bewildered red and tear stained faces looking up at me after I tell them that the first needle is finished! And how those sad little faces and sobs quickly turn into smiles and giggles as I present the prized jar of tiny teddies.....bribery always works a treat! Misconceptions Firstly let me clear up many misconceptions about treating children with acupuncture. 1. It hurts. Not like a vaccination it doesn't! The needles I use to treat children are so fine that ten of my needles can fit INSIDE one hyperdermic syringe used by GPs to administer vaccinations or draw blood. The needles are so fine they can be bent without being broken. There are painless points on the body and there are not so painless points. Any pain experienced by the child can be compared to the likes of when they prick their finger on a thorn. 2. My child wouldn't sit still long enough. Children don't need to sit still. Unlike "adult acupuncture" the needles don't stay in for very long on the very young and I'm pretty good at needling a thrashing arm or leg. There is an art to needling a child - quick insertion so not much (if any) pain is felt, quick stimulation of the point (a few seconds in total), and then the needle is out! Only a handful of points need to be used so the actual acupuncture only takes a few minutes. 3. My child would be too traumatised. (Generally I find it's the parent that's more traumatised than the child!)If you truly believed this assumption then you would never let your child be immunised or have a blood test. As mentioned above, the GP experience - that children are often traumatised by - is nothing like the acupuncture experience. For the extremely sensitive child acupuncture does not have to be used; acupressure, massage, moxa, cupping and herbs can be just as effective it just takes a little longer. Newborns Most conditions suffered by newborns are considered by many as "just part of being a baby". Colic, undigested bits of curdled milk in the stools of a breastfed baby, frequent feeding leaving the mum exhausted and at breaking point to name but a few. However these conditions can be tormentuous and distressing for both baby and you, putting a strain upon other family members and relationships. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can be of benefit bringing fast effective results and respite to everyone involved. I can treat babies as young as a few weeks old. Conditions that can be treated include:Colic and wind pains Reflux (including silent reflux) Constipation "Abnormal" poos (undigested food/curdled milk bits and/or green poos are not normal, I don't care what professional told you otherwise, this is not normal in Chinese medicine and means your child is not digesting milk well. This will lead to further digestive problems later on.) Vomiting or Positing Rashes and eczema Older babies, Toddlers and Children Teething (includes EVERYTHING associated with teething - pain, foul nappies, foul mood etc) Indigestion/Weak digestion Picky eaters, No appetite Colds & Flu - including prevention for kids with low immunity Nasal congestion/Mouth breathers Vaccination preparation Constipation Diarrhoea Vomiting Asthma Coughing - acute or chronic Eczema Middle ear infections (Otitis media), Glue ear Bad breath Insomnia Night terrors Bedwetting (Nocturnal enuresis) Headaches Conjunctivitis Tonsilitis ADHAD Convulsions Urinary tract infections Autism Teenagers ![]() Glandular fever and fatigue Tonsilitis Headaches Eczema Stress Insomnia Asthma Improve study concentration For girls - menstrual problems (irregularity, pain, heavy bleeding, PMS etc) Many more conditions may be treated with Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.
